Soon is 10 September, World Suicide Prevention Day. Suicide prevention is an issue that, as some people here already know, is very close to my personal and professional heart. Every year, an estimated 700,000 people commit suicide, and for every suicide there are approximately 20 suicide attempts.
World Suicide Prevention Day (WSPD) was established in 2003 by the International Association for Suicide Prevention together with the World Health Organization (WHO). A day to draw attention to this important issue, to destigmatise suicide, to educate people and to give hope. Hope, through the singular message that suicide is preventable.
"We can all play a role in supporting those experiencing a suicidal crisis or those bereaved by suicide whether as a member of society, as a child, as a parent, as a friend, as a colleague or as a person with lived experience. We can all encourage understanding about the issue, reach in to people who are struggling, and share our experiences. We can all create hope through action and be the light." (WHO)
In the last few years I have been able to donate more than 600€ through art sales and fundraising to support suicide prevention. I hope to add a few more € this year. I am again offering numerous prints, postcard sets and framed artworks for sale, if you are interested please get in touch. You can also ask for custom prints. The profits will then be donated. I am also open to creative collaborations on this topic, e.g. to give personal texts and thoughts space and visibility here.
If you are struggling a lot yourself at this moment, get in touch with people close to you or with the many opportunities to get help, whether in person, online or by phone. You are worth it and your presence matters. ♥️
